Volunteering at the Used Book Sale is a great way to spend a few hours helping a good cause, meeting people, and having fun. Everyone that works the sale receives priority to purchase used books for their son. It takes approximately 250 parents to staff this event, so there are plenty of opportunities available! If you would like to be a part of this effort, please complete the online volunteer form by selecting the date/time and task you would like to work.  

HOW TO VOLUNTEER

1. Go to www.BigRedBooks.com.
2. Click on Become A Volunteer.
3. Click on “register”  (You MUST register before entering the site for the first time this year, even if you registered last year.)
   1. Enter your email address.
   2. Enter password of your choice.
   3. Enter name.
   4. Enter phone numbers, including area code. Please enter at least 2 phone numbers!
   5. Enter your son(s) FIRST and LAST names.
   6. Click on  Register     .
4. You will be taken to the volunteer opportunities webpage.
5. Click "View Detailed Task Descriptions" for an explanation of each task.
6. Search the volunteer choices by clicking on the date/time or task sort buttons or the calendar or task filters on the left sidebar.
7. Select the button for the time/task you want to work. You may only choose one task. This is your assigned job.
8. Click "Email my assignment" button at the bottom of the page after your selection to receive email confirmation.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 

Where can I find a description of each task? 

You can find a description by clicking on “View Detailed Task Descriptions” in the gray bar at the top of the volunteer opportunities webpage.

Why can I only sign up for one shift? 

We have enough volunteers that everyone only needs to work one shift.

Why do some shifts say "full"?

This means that we already have a volunteer for that task on that day. Please choose another task!

What if I need to change my shift assignment DURING the open volunteer registration period? 

You can change your shift assignment by doing the following:

1. Go to www.BigRedBooks.com.
2. Click on Become A Volunteer .
3. Enter your email address and password.
4. You are taken to the volunteer opportunities webpage where your selected choice is displayed.
5. To cancel your task, click on [selected] to the left of your choice.  Then [select] another task.
6. Click on "email my assignment" at the bottom of the page to receive email confirmation on your new assignment.

What if I need to change my shift assignment AFTER the open volunteer registration period? 

You will need to find your own replacement. You will be sent a master schedule with contact information for all volunteers. Ideally, you will find someone with whom you can swap shifts. Please let the volunteer coordinator know who will be replacing you.

Does volunteering move me to the “top of the list” when ordering Used Books?

Used Book Sale volunteers and sellers are given priority for used books. The computer ranks all requests by date and time of initial request. Each day’s requests will be filled in the following order:

1. Volunteers and sellers
2. Volunteers
3. Sellers
4. All others

For example, if you volunteer and sell books but do not place your initial online request until the last day for ordering, you will still be near the bottom of the list.
