Volunteering at the Used Book Sale is a great way to spend a few hours helping a good cause, meeting people, and having fun. Everyone that works the sale receives priority to purchase used books for their son. It takes approximately 180 parents to staff this event, so there are plenty of opportunities available! If you would like to be a part of this effort, please complete the online volunteer form by selecting the times and tasks you would like to work. Tasks will be assigned according to your choice of time first and then, if possible, your choice of task. The final schedule with your work date and task description will be emailed to you at the beginning of May.

HOW TO VOLUNTEER

How do I volunteer to work the Used Book Sale ? 

1. Go to www.BigRedBooks.com.
2. Click on Become A Volunteer.
3. Click on “register”  (If you have already registered, skip this step)
1. Enter your email address (NOT your First Class email).
2. Enter password of your choice
3. Fill in name and address
4. Phone numbers must include area code. Please include at least 2 phone numbers!
5. Click on  Register    
4. You will be taken to the volunteer opportunities webpage.
5. The volunteer choices appear in date order. You can have them appear by task by clicking on “Sort by:   task”.
6. Select the buttons for the times/tasks you are available. Choose as many as you are available – you will only be assigned ONE.
7. Click the Submit button.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where can I find description of each task? 

You can find a description by clicking on “View Detailed Task Descriptions” in the gray bar at the top of the volunteer opportunities webpage.

Will I get every shift I sign up for? 

NO, you will only be assigned ONE shift. But, the more shifts you are available for, the more likely you are to get one of them.

What if I need to change my available shifts? 

You can change your shift by doing the following:

1. Go to www.BigRedBooks.com
2. Click on Become A Volunteer
3. Enter your email address and your password
4. You are taken to the volunteer opportunities webpage where your selected choices are displayed.
5. To make changes, click the button next to the task you want to select/deselect.

When will I know the shift I am assigned? 

An email will be sent to you on Friday May 1^st with your assigned shift and task.

What if I cannot make my shift? 

You will need to find your own replacement. You will be sent a copy of the master schedule with everyone’s shift and phone numbers. Ideally, you will find someone with whom you can swap shifts. Please let the volunteer coordinator know who will be replacing you.

Does volunteering move me to the “top of the list” when ordering Used Books?

Used Book Sale volunteers and sellers are given priority for used books. The computer ranks all requests by date and time of initial request. Each day’s requests will be filled in the following order:

1. Volunteers and sellers
2. Volunteers
3. Sellers
4. All others

For example, if you volunteer and sell books but do not place your initial online request until the last day for ordering, you will still be near the bottom of the list.

How do I update my registration information?

After logging in, click on “My Profile” in the gray bar at top of screen and change any necessary information.
